Guidelines for teachers and other Toolbox presenters

Picture
  • Review and become familiar with all of the material on the site.
Pay particular attention to the self-assessment forms and templates.

  • Decide on how much time will be necessary to get across the material to your students and how many classes this will involve.
This will depend on their level of maturity.Divide the material over classes.

  • When presenting the material try to illustrate issues that arise and make them come to life from your own personal experience or your personal knowledge.

  • Demonstrate how the forms and templates work with practical examples.
If you feel sufficiently confident, illustrate them using one-to-one coaching sessions.
  • If the students are sufficiently mature, ask them to do one-to-one coaching sessions with each other.

  • Encourage students to explore the supplementary material contained in the links, especially where they relate to matters that are of particular interest to them.

  • The is a danger that students will end up with too many issues/ areas that require attention.  It is desirables that they learn to prioritise and focus on what is important

  • Encourage the students to develop the habit of setting goals for themselves and reviewing them from time to time.

Suggested content for a seven class class course.

Class I
Review the introduction page, introduction to Toolbox theory and profiles in music

Class II
Review the skills section and the music and non-music skills sections

Class III
Review the support section, the introduction to coaching and half of the coaching tools section

Class IV
Review the balance of the coaching tools section and check to see that the students are familiar with all of the questionnaires and templates

Class V
Review the five step process and the resources section.

Class VI
Ask the students to formally complete the questionnaires and to set up goals for themselves.

Class VII
Ask the students to evaluate and review their goals and seek to establish how well they understand the material.
This is just one way to spread the material over a period of time.  Other formats will depend upon the length of the class, the time available and the maturity of the students.
